Are No-Code Tools the Wave of the Future?

Remember when you had to code with HTML and CSS to develop a website? Then along came WordPress, followed  by a myriad of other platforms that let you simply drop your words and pictures into a prebuilt website. Bang.  Done.  Published. Could it be that other coding jobs will go the same way?

There is a new breed of development platforms out there and it is enabling non-coders to create applications with a few clicks. The no-code option uses visual tools to allow users to assemble components. The low-code versions leave room for some coding to fine-tune and customize the product.

In a recent Forbes article, OutSystems CEO Paulo Rosado commented that low-code development helps organizations deliver software 10 times faster than traditional programming. And experts predict that as much as 65 percent of app development will use low-code platforms by 2024.

Some of the no-code tools include Bubble, Typeform,  Blockspring, and Salesforce. On its website, Bubble claims that its platform “lets you create interactive, multi-user apps for desktop and mobile web browsers, including all the features you need to build a site like Facebook or Airbnb.”

Low-code and no-code fans insist that these platforms will make life easier for businesses. But we can’t help asking, what will they do to the job prospects of developers?

The answer? The industry will change.  New technologies will come along. Techies will adapt. Haven’t we always?
