Cybersecurity a necessary skill

If there’s one thing the recent presidential election has taught us, it’s the importance of cybersecurity.

That importance was recently confirmed by a survey conducted by Spiceworks , the online network of IT professionals. According to that survey, cybersecurity skills edged out all other skills, including soft skills such as communications, virtualization, project management, and cloud architecture skills.

Peter Tsai, IT analyst at Spiceworks, commented that “recent events have made it painfully clear that security expertise is needed in every industry, putting IT professionals with security skills in high demand. And because money talks, often underpaid IT pros are more eager to advance their cybersecurity skills to find higher salaries and more fulfilling work.”

This focus on cybersecurity is making it increasingly difficult for IT managers to find new cybersecurity talent. Indeed, some experts have characterized the competition for cybersecurity professionals as a hiring war. As a result of this war for talent, many companies are taking the bold step of hiring IT workers with critical-thinking and problem-solving skills and training them in house.

So if you’re looking for a solid IT job that pays well and offers unlimited opportunities for growth, you would be well advised to add cybersecurity to your IT armamentarium.
