High salaries for tech workers not confined to Silicon Valley

Think you can’t get full value for your STEM education without moving to Silicon Valley?  Think again.

There are, in fact, a number of great places in the U.S. that pay top dollar for STEM skills. And in those places, a six figure salary will go a lot farther than it will in San Francisco.

Here is the surprising list of the top ten, recently compiled by Inc. magazine.

  1. Lexington Park, Maryland
  2. Huntsville, Alabama
  3. Boulder, Colorado
  4. Washington, D.C.
  5. Seattle, Washington
  6. Durham, North Carolina
  7. Boston, Massachusetts
  8. Raleigh, North Carolina
  9. San Diego

The average STEM salary in all of these cities tops $100K.

And for all you techies who want to stay in the Badger State, Madison, WI is number 15 on the Inc. list. Not too shabby.

So look around, do your homework, and take heart. You don’t have to live in a place where $100K will barely cover your living expenses.
