You’ve seen the headlines. 10 top skills for the New Year. 7 best new technologies for IT professionals in 2023. 5 top computer competencies to list on your resume for the coming year. 27 IT trends for 2023. But what’s really the top of the top for IT in the New Year?
You guessed it. Artificial Intelligence.
Once the purview for science fiction (hats off to Hal), AI is now on the brink of taking over much of the computer world. Machine learning and language processing – two integral components of AI – are already ubiquitous. And, AI is clearly capable of dealing with problems, from diagnostics to solutions, without specific programming.
Sounds scary? How about this. AI systems are beginning to replicate human traits, using artificial synapses that mimic the human brain. Memory emulation, speech recognition, learning, and planning are all within the scope of AI computers.
Customer service, marketing, banking, healthcare, business accounting, public safety, retail, education, public transport,…, you name it, AI computers will be able to handle it faster, more efficiently, and cheaper than human workers.
And then there is the field of human/computer interface. Technologies such as neuromorphic chips and brain mapping are allowing scientists to create brain-computer interfaces that can drive external devices and even read thoughts. It’s called human augmentation technology.
So fasten your seatbelts, fellow computer nerds. We could be in for a crazy ride in 2023.
