We’ve all heard about the Internet of Things. Many experts think it is the next logical area for massive job growth. By 2020, more than half of major new business systems could incorporate IoT elements. But along with that optimism is the cautionary statement that most IT professionals don’t have the skills needed to successfully complete IoT projects.
Rich Pearson, Senior Vice President for Marketing at Upwork, has named ten skills that are most in demand for IoT projects. These are:
- Machine learning
- Autocad
- Node.js
- Security infrastructure
- Security engineering
- Big data
- GPS development
- Electrical engineering
- Circuit design
- Microcontroller programming
There seems to be no end to the devices we can connect to the Internet. As this trend continues – with no end in sight, apparently – tech companies will need to hone their processes and fine-tune their tech professionals to deliver IoT projects efficiently and effectively. Having the right skills on hand could take them a long way to that end.
