VA Recruiting Displaced Tech Workers

Lose your job in the Big Tech Big Layoff? The VA wants you!

The Veterans Administration is on the hunt for IT talent and it makes no bones about its initiative to scoop up the professionals laid off by tech companies.

Speaking at a recent media roundtable, Kurt DelBene, VA’s chief information officer and assistant secretary for information and tech, said that the thousands of layoffs across the tech sector provide “a good opportunity” for VA to bolster its own tech workforce.

The impetus behind VA’s recruitment frenzy is its focus on modernizing and transforming its IT systems. Happily, that goal coincides with the sudden flood of talented workers on the job market, thanks to Big Tech layoffs.

VA Chief People Officer Nathan Tierney commented, “In 2023 and beyond, we will be very intentional about using the right techniques to promote VA’s Office of Information and Technology and its mission to attract the right talent.”  To facilitate that goal the VA has set up a specific email inbox — OITcareers@va.gov — to help people that are “coming from the tech industry and are not familiar with the government hiring process, which can be a little bit daunting without somebody talking you through it,” according to VA Chief Technology Officer Charles Worthington.
