It’s time for the Administration to start planning the 2024 federal budget. Towards that end, the White House has directed federal agencies to submit cybersecurity research and development priorities to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Federal agencies have been instructed to make investments in three cyber priority areas:
- Improving the Defense and Resilience of Government Networks;
- Deepening Cross-Sector Collaboration in Defense of Critical Infrastructure; and
- Strengthening the Foundations of Our Digitally-Enabled Future.
In an earlier Executive Order on “Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity,” the President called on the U.S. Government to “make bold changes and significant investments in order to defend the vital institutions that underpin the American way of life,” to lead by example in the strengthening and modernization of its own information technology (IT) systems and networks.

In the meantime, to promote National Security, we suggest that you refrain from keeping cardboard boxes full of material marked “TOP SECRET” in the back of your linen closet.
